A removable partial denture usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base, which is sometimes connected by metal framework that holds the denture in place in the mouth. Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. Not only does a partial denture fill the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from changing position. A partial denture needs to be removed daily for cleaning and to let the tissue underneath "breath".
The partial denture development process takes a few weeks and several appointments. The general steps will be to take impressions and create wax models that the patient will "try in". Once the models are complete, our dental lab will cast the final partial denture. After the final partial denture is tried in small adjustments may be needed for a proper, comfortable fit.
